Stewardship: A Divine Responsibility

1 Peter 4:10
"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms."

1 Corinthians 4:2
"Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful."

Who is a Steward?

A steward is someone entrusted with something that does not belong to them. Their duty is to manage it faithfully and responsibly. In the same way, we are stewards of everything God has given us—our time, talents, money, bodies, and the Gospel. These do not belong to us but are entrusted to us by God, and we are accountable to Him for how we manage them.

Matthew 25:19
"After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money."

Romans 14:12
"So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God."

God has given us five key things to steward, and when He returns, He will ask for an account of how we have used them:

1. Your Time

Job 14:1
"Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble."

Time is a gift from God, and we must use it wisely. If we waste our time on meaningless things, we will stand guilty before Him. The Bible warns us that our time is precious and should be spent wisely.

2 Corinthians 5:10
"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad."

Are we spending our time on things that glorify God, or are we wasting it on worldly distractions?

2. Your Talents

Matthew 25:19
"After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money."

God has given each person unique talents and abilities. No one is left without a gift. Our duty is to discover and use them for God's glory.

In the Parable of the Talents, Jesus tells of a man who buried his master's money instead of using it wisely. We must not be like that man—we must develop and use our gifts for the Kingdom of God.

3. Your Money

1 Chronicles 29:14
"But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? For everything comes from You, and we have given You only what comes from Your own hand."

Everything we own—money, possessions, family, and resources—comes from God. We must be good stewards of our finances and use them in ways that honor Him.

Luke 16:11
"If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?"

Are we earning money righteously? Are we managing it wisely? God will hold us accountable for every penny.

4. Your Body

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."

Our bodies are not our own; they belong to God. We must take care of them and avoid anything that defiles them.

Romans 13:14
"Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy."

Are we treating our bodies with respect, keeping them holy, and using them to serve God?

5. The Gospel of Truth

1 Corinthians 9:16-17
"For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me."

The Gospel is the greatest treasure entrusted to us. It is compared to pearls because it contains life and truth. We are called to share it faithfully, without adding or taking away from it.

Are we spreading the Gospel? Are we living in a way that reflects God’s truth?

Final Thought

Stewardship is about faithfulness. God has entrusted us with time, talents, money, our bodies, and the Gospel. One day, He will ask how we have used these gifts.

Let us live each day with purpose, managing all that God has given us wisely, so that when He returns, we can hear Him say:

"Well done, good and faithful servant!" (Matthew 25:23)
